Medieval Dynasty is a survival strategy builder game developed by Render Cube, a Polish game development company. It was initially launched on PC in September 2020 and later made its way to current-gen consoles last year. After a long wait, it’s finally out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Medieval Dynasty Review
I’m unsure about survival RPGs because I need more time to immerse myself in them fully. I enjoy the concept and often plan to spend time on it, but I restart because I take breaks. I was intrigued by everything I had seen about Medieval Dynasty. Could this game be the one to break the cycle for me?
Gameplay
In the Medieval Dynasty, you play as Racimir, a young man escaping war and determined to shape his destiny. You start your journey feeling lonely, inexperienced, and poor. Over time, you will show off your talents, become a community leader, and build a successful dynasty for future generations. While exploring, hunting, gathering, and crafting, you can build a house, create a village, and even start a family. This game offers a variety of gameplay experiences across different genres. Creating your legacy can be difficult due to harsh winters and unexpected events.
You can play the game in either first or third-person view, which is a nice feature. I chose the third-person perspective because it made seeing what was happening around me easy.
To start building, you can craft a wooden axe. This tool helps you cut down trees and create the materials you need. I discovered a beautiful spot while looking for a place for my village. There was a waterfall in this area, and someone forgot their bronze pick-axe. When starting your village, make sure it’s not an expansion of an existing one. Look for a place close to Gostovia within a 1200-meter radius with what you’re looking for. In Gostovia, you’ll start important stories to advance in the game.
I found it frustrating that I could walk through deep lakes like they were forests. Although there is resistance that slows you down, there is no swimming and no changes to the character animations. It was small, but it bothered me because it seemed like a simple execution. The slow progression could be more enjoyable, mainly because the fast travel system is expensive.
Activities
People engage in various activities like hunting animals, farming crops, or mining for rare materials. Here are some ways to make money, each with its building type. The early hunting lodge helps you dry meat. Here are some easy ways to increase the value of goods: dried meat sells for more than regular meat, and the same goes for roasted meat. Be careful here and pay attention to your money, as it’s easy to make a mistake and take advantage of easy cash.
Be prepared for bandits while traveling between villages. Carry self-defense items to protect yourself. Getting a ride to another town can be expensive, especially in the early hours. You might find some money in abandoned places, but the trip itself would cost 700. It greatly affects the story’s progression, making it feel like a slow journey across half of the map.
Graphics & Audio
Medieval Dynasty has incredible graphics that create a captivating atmosphere. As you stroll through a forest, sunlight filters through the trees, creating beautiful light beams. I think Medieval Dynasty has the best graphics for its genre right now. To stay clean, it’s a good idea for characters to take a quick swim in the river.
Seasons showcase diverse settings and contrasting environments. I enjoy winter because it looks so beautiful, and the title adds charm to it. I pointed out the problem with the swimming character animation. It should have been included, and it feels lazy of the developers not to have it. Swimming has been around for a long time, even before medieval times. So, you can’t blame the medieval era for this. The PlayStation 5 version has been updated to run at 60 fps, which it didn’t have at launch.
The audio is fantastic, with about 25 tracks in the game. It adds to the busy and lively atmosphere of everyday life. The weather is fantastic, especially the rainstorms sound nice.
Longevity
Medieval Dynasty is a highly addictive game that can entertain you for hours. Start your journey to create a village with interesting characters by constructing your first house. Marry and have a child who will inherit from you. On average, most gamers will spend at least 35 hours to complete a basic game. However, it can take over 160 hours for those aiming for full completion.

Final Thoughts
Medieval Dynasty is a good game, but its flaws prevent it from being excellent. The lack of excitement and slow progression may put some gamers off. Once you overcome that obstacle, you’ll have a much more enjoyable experience. You’ll unlock better items and buildings as you progress, so keep going!
