Although it may seem odd, fruit has been a popular theme in video games. Games like Fruit Ninja and Pac-Man have shown that fruit can be a fun and successful concept. So, it’s not surprising that more fruit-themed games are being created. Suika Game is a puzzle game you can play on the Switch or online for free. I played it online. This game is a fun twist on Tetris with a fruit theme.
Instead of using blocks and matching colors, you have circular fruits that can be matched based on their type. When the fruits match, they combine and grow bigger. They also transform into a different kind of fruit, with the suika (watermelon) being the largest and most desirable. Matching fruits is easy. The circular dynamic adds a unique twist as the objects shift and roll into place. When you make a match, everything moves around and can create satisfying combos.
The graphics and audio were good. I enjoyed the adorable fruit graphics. They were visually appealing and worked well. The audio was not satisfying. I don’t know if this issue is also present in the Switch version, but the web browser port was strange because it had no music. It felt weird, and the game would benefit from having some pleasant music. There were sound effects, and they were okay. I wouldn’t say I liked it, but others do.
